In Memory of Carla Giuffrida
With heavy hearts, we share with you this very sad news…
Our beloved Carla Giuffrida passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Carla taught at the Homestead for about 35 years and led Early Childhood Classrooms before becoming our first Fiber Arts Teacher. Many of us worked side by side with Carla and others taught her children Lindsay and Mauro. She will be terribly missed by all of us. If you never had the pleasure of meeting her, and wish to be touched by her light, or wish to re-visit her kind soul, you will find her immortalized on our website, featured in the Fiber Arts video. If you were fortunate enough to know her, you will share in the tremendous loss we all are feeling.
Below is a picture that staff member and alumni Miguel Gonzalez shared of Mrs. Giuffrida as his Kindergarten teacher.
Epitaph
By Merrit Malloy
When I die
Give what’s left of me away
To children
And oldmen that wait to die
And if you need to cry,
Cry for your brother
Walking the street beside you.
And when you need me,
Put your arms
Around anyone
And give them
What you need to give to me.
I want to leave you something,
Something better
Than words
Or sounds
Look for me
In the people I’ve known
Or loved,
And if you cannot give me waya,
At least let me live in your eyes
And not in your mind.
You can love me most
By letting
Hands touch hands,
By letting bodies touch bodies,
And by letting go
Of children
That need to be free.
Love doesn’t die.
People do.
So, when all that’s left of me
Is love,
Give me away.
Cards can be sent to her children.
