Amee Templin
Amee is originally from the Twin Cities in Minnesota, but she has called many places home around the world. She started her education journey at the University of North Dakota, graduating with Bachelor degrees in English, Spanish, and Secondary Education, as well as receiving her Secondary Education Certification. While at the UND, she met her partner and husband, Tim, and they moved to the Chicago area where Amee worked as a high school English teacher for three years.
In 2016, Amee and Tim left their life in the US to pursue a dream of teaching and traveling around the world. They first followed their noses around South America, finding government-funded English education programs in Uruguay and Colombia, then they took on the challenge of teaching English in China. Throughout her travels, Amee dreamed about returning to Spain where she had studied abroad during her college years, so, in 2019, she and Tim landed in Alcalá de Henares, a small historic city on the eastern edge of Madrid. There, Amee completed a Master’s degree in Multicultural and Bilingual Education and also taught English at local bilingual schools.
Amee finds joy in languages, plants, books, music, and hockey (of the ice and roller varieties), however, her interests and passions are always evolving. After wandering around the world for five years, Amee is pleased to be a part of Homestead’s mission to inspire and lead the next generations of explorers and changemakers.
“My philosophy of education revolves around the phrase “do what’s best for kids.” For me, what’s best for kids is primarily built around the relationships I have with students. From day one, I intentionally have informal conversations with all students – individually or in a group setting – in order to build trust and rapport. I believe students should feel comfortable to ask me questions about subjects both inside and outside of the classroom, and I invite students to be as curious as possible about the world. If I do not know an answer to a question, we will investigate it together!”
