Bernard McIlwain
Bernard “Mac” McIlwain grew up in New York City. He has been a longtime homeowner in Sullivan county and was thrilled to make this his full time residence in 2020. He is a graduate of Brooklyn College where he received his Physical Education Degree (BA), Master Secondary Education (MS) and Administration and Supervision Certificate.
Prior to joining Homestead, he worked as a Physical Education Teacher, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director in New York City. During his career he successfully implemented developmental sports teams, developed relationships with academic programs, developed a student athlete tutoring program, managed athletic budgets and coordinated with college recruiters.
As a lead athletic administrator he supported and developed over 20 high school teams, while ensuring that students developed the commitment, resilience and dedication to be successful in both sports and academics. Many of his former players and students went on to play both college level and professional sports. His ultimate goal is to build a rapport with students of diverse backgrounds and use sports as a tool to help guide them to make decisions that have positive impacts on their lives.
Outside of work, you will find Mac on the golf course perfecting his game or traveling to a new destination in the world.
